The Alphabet Quilt

td1

This is Toby’s Alphabet Quilt and the pattern is by Amy Bradley.  If you follow this link it will take you to Amy’s website and you will see that the pattern comes with a colouring book as well!  So cute!.

td2

Toby did a wonderful job on appliqueing these cute characters with a blanket stitch.  She asked for dense background fill so I did pebbles and I used 100wt white Invisifil.  I stitched in the ditch around each character and letter.  She also requested a meandering alphabet in the black outer border with a bright variegated thread so I used a Lava variegated thread there.  That was fun to do!

Here are some close ups of the blocks.

You can see the meandering alphabet in the next pictures.

It is very windy today so this was the best shot I could manage to get of the whole quilt top.

So nice to see the sun shining after a week of rain and cool temperatures.

Farm Girl Finery Quilt

mr6

This is Marlene’s Farm Girl Finery quilt and the pattern is in Kim Diehl’s book Simple Appeal.   Marlene hand appliqued the wool pieces with a blanket stitch and pieced the top beautifully!  I used a beige Invisifil 100wt thread across the top and used Quilters Dream Blend batting.  I stitched in the ditch around all the applique pieces and around the stars.   Did Continuous Curves in the squares, pebbles in the applique background and feathers around the red star.

Homecoming Quilt

eb1

This is Evelyn’s quilt that she made for her grandson’s High School graduation.  She used the Homecoming wall hanging pattern as the centre of the quilt and then added the Canada Gemstones bundle to make it a bed size quilt, not a wall hanging.   I quilted free hand 3’s and E’s on the stripes with beige So Fine thread and then switched white as I stitched in the ditch around the applique and added swirls to the background.  Changed to red thread for the vertical wavy lines down the two red sides.

Most of the ice is off the lake now and I have been watching the Northern Pike swim along the shoreline.

Firelights Lane Quilt

ib1

This is Iris’s Fireside Lane quilt and the pattern is by Sassafras Lane.  She used all Grunge fabrics and the colours from green to purple remind me of the Northern Lights!  I used Bora Bora for the pantograph, light teal So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

Just a little bit of ice left on the lake, so nice to have the open water back!

Magic Tile #2

ds2

This is Donna’s Magic Tile quilt and it is similar to one I did a few weeks ago but she used a black Grunge border.  I used the Bayside panto, a bright primary coloured Lava variegated thread, which really shows up nicely on the black border, and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

I took these pictures last week, the ice is now gone from the shoreline but still plenty on the lake.

Last Wednesday I left for my weekend trip to teach Free Motion Quilting as well as do a Trunk Show for the Crocus Quilters Guild  in Dauphin, MB.  I spent a few days with Lori, my Highway 10 Designs partner, and we  were able to work on a few projects.  One thing on our To-Do list when we were together was to get a few new head shots as we only see each other twice  a year.  Here are the two best ones for that morning photo shoot. We have fun changing the background quilt and trying different poses.

Cat City Quilt

hm1

This is Hollie’s Cat City quilt and the pattern is by Villa Rosa Designs.   She  used fun Halloween themed fabrics with cats, owls, moon and stars. I picked Flirtatious for the pantograph as it looks like little moons.  The thread is a greenish yellow So Fine thread and I used Quilters Dream Blend batting.

Quarter Section in Cotton and Steel

ra1

This is Reneta’s Quarter Sections baby quilt made in Flower Shop fabrics by Cotton and Steel.  I love how Reneta changed the layout of the blocks and put then length-wise across the rows. It is always fun to see how other interpret and create variations of our Highway 10 Design patterns.

I chose the pantograph Garden Frills, used light orange So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.
