Summer Memories

Lori created this lovely Loon quilt using a panel by David Textiles called Summer Memories.  She also appliqued three extra loons onto the quilt in the borders.  I quilted it with the Ripples pantograph and used a light brown thread.  Batting is an 80/20 Pellen.

The backing was a soft brown flannel which really shows off the quilting pattern.

Cardinals

Lori made this lovely panel quilt using the Cardinal Call of the Wild panel by Hoffman Fabrics.  She designed the layout herself and added the pinwheels and stars.  I quilted it with the Snow Winds pantograph, used light grey So Fine thread and she brought Pellon 80/20 batting. 

Red and Beige Quilt

Kim made this charming quilt using fabrics from her stash!  She loves Primitive Gatherings style quilts and used their brand of Triangle Paper to make the 2 1/2" HST blocks. You can find those papers on their website, link here.  I watched her make the HST blocks at our Tuesday sewing group and then play around with the block layout until she came up with this 10" block layout.  Looks great! 

Since the print has such tiny leaf/flower details I chose Wildflower for the pantograph as it has a dainty feel too!  Thread is a beige So Fine and batting is Quilters Dream Blend.

Periwinkle Quilt

Bev made this stunning Periwinkle quilt, pattern by Missouri Star Quilt Co.  She used a Christmas themed line of fabric called 'Overnight Delivery" by Sweetwater from Moda Fabrics.   The Santa fabric in the outer border with the plaid inner border was a great finishing touch!

I quilted Beadboard in the outer border in Black So Fine thread and continuous curves in the star design using an off white So Fine thread. 

 I created a star template using my EQ8 program to use in the center of the black background and then pebbled around it.  I found the same block in the EQ8 block library and drew in the star so the points matched up with the seam lines.  I like to use the seams as design guides as much as possible when I custom quilt. I then printed it out, stitched holes in the paper using my sewing machine and then used my Pounce chalk to mark it on the quilt top.

As you can see our snow is all gone but it is still cool and windy.  I'm patiently waiting for spring to arrive but so nice to see the sunshine!

Keyhole Quilt

Marie pieced this great quilt called Keyhole, a pattern by Missouri Star Quilt Company.  She used batik fabrics in shades of light to dark brown.

I quilted it with the Mimosa pantograph, used a peachy beige So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

Triangle Jitters

This is Lucinda's Triangle Jitters quilt, a pattern by Suzy Quilts.   I quilted it with the Whirlygig pantograph, used white So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

The backing was a lovely two toned batik and I used a gold Bottom Line thread on the back.

The Glenda Quilt

Lucinda made this lovely quilt using a pattern by Kitchen Table Quilting called The Glenda Quilt.

 I quilted it with the Bayside pantograph, used a light grey So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

 The backing is a grey Stonehenge wide back.

I want to share a trick I learnt last week using my iPhone for taking quilt pictures.  I stumbled upon this by accident when editing my photos on my phone.  There is a feature in the photo edit section where you can change the horizontal and vertical perspective.  I'll take you through the steps. Here is the before on the left and after on the right, its the same photo! Its a real game changer for upping your quilt photography.

Select 'Edit" on the photo you want to edit. Tap the 'Rotate/Crop/Flip" button at the bottom.

I then tapped the Rotate clockwise button at the top to rotate my photo ( you might not have to do this).  Then I tapped the Vertical Perspective button at the bottom of the screen ( middle circle).

Now drag the slider until you have the quilt image square, a grid will appear so you can easily see when you have the right angle.  Then click Done. You now have a straight perspective and I didn't notice any distortion to the edited photo.

 You can also adjust the horizontal perspective ( third circle) and straighten a photo ( first circle) with these buttons at the bottom of the screen as well.

More Northcott Panel Quilts!

Lori made two more panel quilts that I had to share!  This first one is made with Northcott's On Golden Pond panel and Lori added the pieced maple leaves to the inner border. Really adds a nice detail to the quilt.

I quilted it with Bora Bora to look like wind blowing through the leaves.  Used a green So Fine thread and she brought a Pellon Cotton batting.

One other cool feature Lori added was she pieced the backing to look like a Hudson Bay Blanket!  I really is a great touch as this blanket is in the image in the panel.  Another detail in the panel is the book on the dock is titled 'On Golden Pond'. 

Lori also pieced this great kids quilts using Northcott's Savanna panel and fabric collection.

I chose Ebb and Flow for the pantograph as it reminded me of zebra stripes in this quilt.  Used a golden brown So Fine thread and she bought a Pellon Cotton batting.

The backing is a fun giraffe print and a border section from the Savanna collection. 

Home and Native Land Quilt

Lori made the lovely Canadian themed quilt using a panel by Stonehenge from a collection called Home and Native Land.  The aboriginal art work in the map is very striking in design.  I was at a retreat this winter with Lori when she was working on this quilt.  She didn't use a pattern but as she put it 'was making it up as she went along'.  I think she did a fantastic job and I like the addition of the Canada flags and red stars in the outer border.

I used the Maple Syrup pantograph as the leaves in that design really stand out nicely in the off white border.  I used off white So Fine thread and she brought a Pellon Cotton batting.
