Summer Solstice Quilt

Lucinda made this lovely modern Summer Solstice quilt by Alderwood Studios.  She used Art Gallery solids and the Wavelength Forester print, and a navy grunge.

I quilted it with the Arrowful pantograph which is becoming one of my new favorite quilting designs to use.  The thread is a denim blue So Fine and the batting is Quilters Dream Blend.

Check out this fabulous wide backing she brought, its gorgeous!  Lucinda purchased it from Sew Curated and it is called Hillside Meadow by Art Gallery Fabrics.

Its so pretty I had to share two pictures of the backing.

Well we still have a bit of snow left and I am patiently waiting for spring to arrive.  Its been a long winter here and I'm so ready for some warmer weather. 

 

Petal Junction - Highway 10 Designs Pattern #16

So happy to share that Lori and I have published a new Highway 10 Designs pattern, this one is called Petal Junction and has 3 layout options.   Fabric requirements are given for 7 sizes, from Toddler to King and is a Fat Quarter and Half Yard Friendly pattern.   We wrote this one with directional and large scale prints in mind and the instructions direct you to a chose from 2 piecing options depending on if your using directional prints or not.

This first sample was made by our friend Reneta and she did the X's and O's layout using the Harmony collection by Melissa Lee for Riley Blake Designs. She made the Throw size that is 60" x 75" which used 20 fat quarters plus a background fabric.  We also give the option for using fat quarters for your background if you like a scrappy/low volume look. 

We have a lot of samples to share with you so this post will be picture heavy!  This next sample is one Lori made using Little Forester Fusion by Art Gallery Fabrics.  She made the Double which is 90" x 90" and used 18 half yards of the focus fabrics. 

To eliminate waste fabric we include instructions for you to sew bonus HST units as you sew your blocks. These are not used in this quilt top but can be used for a bonus project or blocks to add to the backing. We include diagrams for 3 star layouts that came be made with this HST units.  Lori used one of those star designs and added them to her backing.

Lori also made this sweet Toddler sized quilt using the One-Way layout. She used 12 fat quarters of Primavera by Figo and the size measures 45"x 60".

This next sample was made by our friend Amy and she used a fat quarter bundle by Desert Wilderness by Boccaccine Meadows for Figo Fabrics. She did the One-Way layout and made the Lap size which is 60"x 60" using 16 fat quarters and a solid colour background.

I quilted this one for her and used the Ombre pantograph, used a beige So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

The next two samples are ones that I have made and are both Lap size using the X's and O's layout.  The first one is made with a mix of the  Kismet collection by Sharon Holland and the Homebody collection by Maureen Cracknell for Art Gallery Fabrics.  The background is a black Deco Stitch by Art Gallery. I quilted it with the Windswept pantograph, used light grey So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

My second sample was also made with a mix of mostly Homebody and a bit of Kismit by Art Gallery Fabrics.  I quilted it with the Bountiful Feathers pantograph, used off white So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.  

This time I used 5 low volume fat quarters for the background.  We give the fabric requirements for background in yardage and fat quarter amounts.

I have this one hanging in my longarm studio now!

We didn't have a sample with the third layout option which is the Zig Zag layout.

Sea Glass Quilt

I have wanted to make a Sea Glass wall hanging for a long time. I have been following the Exhausted Octopus on Instagram for a few years now and she has made some amazing Sea Glass quilts.  She even created an online class on how to make one so I purchased the class and watched it when it was convenient for me.  I would highly recommend this class if you have been thinking about making one of these quilts.  Here is a link to her website. 

I made a small one, its about 22" x34".   I'm happy with how it turned out but think when I make another one I would vary the pebble size more and cut the shapes more random.  You can see I like things very even and uniform, that's how my brain works so I will have stretch outside my box to get the amazing results I see from Allie's samples she shares on her Exhausted Octopus Instagram. 

After fusing down the pebbles I loaded it onto my longarm and quilted them down, traveling from pebble to pebble and was done in no time.  I just used on thread, a white So Fine and it worked well. 

I would recommend using a good quality fusible for this project.  My favorite is Steam A Seam 2 Lite.  I had a bunch of WonderUnder on hand so used that for mine and regretted it!  It was not strong enough and my fabric pebbles were falling of when I was handling it.  So learn from my mistake, use the good stuff!

I used a facing for this wall hanging instead of binding and that worked very well. 

Pinwheel Puzzle

Nancy pieced this lovely neutral toned Pinwheel Puzzle quilt which was a pattern in the summer 2021 Quilt Sampler Magazine.  It was designed by Sewing Seeds Quilt Company.

I quilted it with the Whitecaps pantograph, used light grey So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

Nancy found a great selection of grey prints for this quilt and used a off white Grunge for the background.

Slip Knot Quilt

Gail made this lap quilt using a pattern from Patchwork Square website and the block is called Slip Knot.  She used batiks from her stash to make this scrappy 9 block version.

I quilted it with the Whirlygig pantograph, used beige So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

More Embroidery Projects!

I have still be stitching away on some wonderful embroidery projects.  The above Butterfly was a PDF pattern I purchased and downloaded from designer Emily Ferris.  Here is a link to her Etsy shop. 

Her pattern instructions are very detailed and I would highly recommend them.

I ordered a second Emily Ferris design for this Bumblebee and it was just as detailed as the butterfly.

 Then I purchased a Spirit Island kit from Needle Craft and Studio, designed by Angiels Art.  I didn't use the off white muslin fabric in the kit but switched it to a grey COSMO Japanese Linen.

So you could say I have a bit of an embroidery addiction happening right now!  Just ordered a few more PDF patterns so can't wait to get started on those.  

I also purchased every colour of DMC floss available, including the variegated line!   I just put in a call to one of my favorite quilt shops, Fabriculous in Brandon, Manitoba, and asked for 'one of each'!   Now the challenge is how to store them.  For now I tied them in bundles by their numbers, example all the 200's in one bundle, etc and that makes it easy to find a number. Made a large rope bowl and put them in that for now, looks like a bouquet of floss! If you have any suggestions on how you store your floss I would love to hear them.  I don't plan on winding them on cardboard spools, did that years ago but don't have time for that!  I have seen them wrapped on clothes pins when working on a project which is cute but not how I want to store them.

Oh and one more find...Check out these cool frames and hoop holders I purchased from Modern Hoopla.  I have been putting a lot of my pieces on my shelves in my office and love how the holders work.  Still need to finish the wood on the frames but waiting until I decide which pieces will end up in each frame.

Think my Hedgehog will end up in this one with a darker finish on it.
