Second Ruby Waxed Canvas Tote

I think I am addicted to making these totes!  Made my second Fabriculous 'Ruby Waxed Canvas Tote' this week and am now out of waxed canvas! Time to order some more from Fabriculous!  

I used a sweet fabric for the outer pocket called Birdsong by Jojo-Coco for Dashwood Studio.

Added a light blue fabric I had in my stash called Norrland by Bethan Janine for Dashwood Studio.  I seem to be starting to collect Dashwood and Art Gallery fabrics, I still like batiks but they are not the dominate stash builder anymore.

Third Round Robin - Final Round

Here is the last round of our Third Round Robin!  The theme this round was 'flowers'.  I chose do fusible machine applique and had created a template to cut all my petal shapes out. 

Bronwyn all wowed us with her tiny hexagon flowers! I do believe they are hand pieced and appliqued as that is something she enjoys doing.

Desley made a lovely pieced flower block in pinks and greens and I love the pop of green in the sashing.

Lori made this positive/negative style flower block and machine appliqued the petals and stem. That was a great use of our focus fabric.

So now two sets of Lori's and my blocks are in the mail traveling over seas to Australia and two sets of Bronwyns and Desley's blocks are on there way to Canada. We will all have 20 of the same blocks to make a quilt top with and have until the end of May to piece our tops. Deadlines can be a good motivator.   I have a feeling they will all look different when they are done.

Autumn Walk Quilt

This is Joy Anne's Autumn Walk quilt, a pattern by Muddy Waters Quilt Company. I couldn't find a source online!  This is a great stash buster and I love how the leaves are oriented in all directions.

I used Fascination for the pantograph design, beige So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

Finally found a camera angle to show you this lovely piece of macrame art I bought last year at a local craft sale.  The artist is from here in Emo and has a Instagram page called Willow and Knots. I really like that she also dyes her cording and makes beautiful pieces that are modern using traditional techniques.

I am much happier with taking pictures in this room now that I have updated the furniture. :)

The Ruby Waxed Canvas Tote

I attended a local retreat with some wonderful quilters this weekend and managed to finished a few project.  I finished piecing a top but will save that one to share when I have it quilted!  The other project was making this beautiful waxed canvas tote for myself!  My friend Wendy, who own Fabriculous Quilt Shop in Manitoba, designed this pattern and is always ahead of the next trend.  It's called The Ruby Waxed Canvas Tote and you can find the pattern on her website here.  I have made quite a few of Wendy's pattern, like her Viking quilt and Falling in Love quilt. 

I had this beautiful batik in my stash to use on the pocket of the exterior of the bag and lined it with Art Gallery Fusion Sparkler Liten Ditsy.  I'm becoming quite a fan of Art Gallery fabrics these days.

I have been redecorating my bedroom and bought a new bedroom suite, no more oak in my house.  So feeling a bit more modern with my new decor and new trendy bag!

Wendy's shop carries all the supplies needed to make this tote including the leather straps, rivets and a wonderful colour selection of waxed canvases.  I'll be making a grey one next!

Blue Baby Quarter Sections with Shrepa!

Janice made this sweet quilt using our Quarter Sections pattern.  The fabrics are a blend of animal prints and neutrals with a pop of blue.

Janice brought a blue Sherpa Cuddle backing which I have never quilted with before. It was pretty stretchy along the cross grain so I loaded it with the selvages on my canvas leaders so the stretch was even across the quilt. I added Quilters Dream Blend batting as even this thick cuddle backs still need batting, without it the backings can beard up to the top as their fibers are so long.

I was happy with how it quilted and it really shows off the quilting design on the back. I used the Popcorn panto as it is one of my go-to designs for baby/kids quilts.  I used So Fine white thread on top and white Bottom Line on the back.

Hexified Panel Quilt

This is Mary Jo's Hexified Panel Quilt using Timeless Treasures Dream Flower panel,  you can download the pattern here.  Mary Jo made this top at a class at Up North Quilt Shop a year ago. Its a great pattern combining the One Block Wonder technique with panels.   

I quilted it with the Whirlygig pantograph as it has the flowery tropical feel that pair nicely with the colourful theme of this quilt.

I used an orange So Fine #532 thread across the whole quilt and it blended well with all the colours.  I used Quilters Dream Blend batting.

We had our first snowfall this weekend, not enough for a good backdrop yet but managed to find enough snow for one picture.

Pink Baby Quarter Sections Quilt

I have good friend who's youngest sister is having a baby girl in mid November. We are all so excited for her and can't wait for this baby to arrive!   I picked up this mix of pinks, grays and blacks this summer at a quilt shop in Kenora, ON called Born to Quilt. 

I used our Quarter Sections pattern as it only needs 5 fat quarters and makes up the perfect sized baby quilt.  I used Quilters Dream Puff for the batting and a gray Minkie for the backing to make it soft and cuddly.  The panto is called Happy Times!

Saskatoon Quilt Show 2019

Last weekend I went on a bit of a road trip!  I picked up Lori in Selkirk then made our way to Dauphin that evening and had a great visit with friends there.  Then off to Saskatoon the next day where we meet up with friends from Flin Flon and we all enjoyed the Saskatoon Quilters Guild Quilt Show. 

Mami's Country Quilts was there and they have a lovely sample of our Alternate Routes quilt on display.

Fabriculous from Swan River/Gimli was there as well and had a great sample of our Quarter Sections quilt on display.  Wendy, the shop owner, has my sample of her pattern "Falling in Love' and I'm really glad she is still enjoying it for her displays. She also had a beautiful sample of a quilt from the book Quilts from Iceland that I just love!  

I didn't take too many photos of the quilts in the show but this next two caught my eye!  The first one is a Steampunk quilt  ( sorry I didn't take a closer picture of the cards on these quilt so if you know who's these quilts were made by please let me know in the comments.)

And I'm sure your not surprised this next one caught my eye!

So I think I did a good job supporting the vendors.  I feel in love with this collection called Winter Shimmer by Jennifer Sampou when I saw it in Keystone Modern Creative booth! So it came home with me!

Then I picked up some waxed canvas, rivets and leather straps from Fabriculous, and her pattern to make the tote too!  I picked up a collection of bold prints for a variety of shops but haven't decided which ones to use with the canvas.

 A month ago I stopped in at a wonderful quilt shop in Beausejour, MB called Needle Crafts + Studio and picked up a bit of fabric and the North Stars pattern by Elizabeth Hartman. I got about half the fabrics I needed at that time and then collected a few more at the show. Here is what I added to my collection for this quilt from the show.

I was smart and glued swatches of the fabrics I had already bought into the pattern book before leaving for the show and then when I got home glued in what I bought at the show. Still need 6 more fabrics!  I changed the colouring of the owl block to purple from the rose pink but the rest I keep close to the pattern.

When I was at Needle Craft + Studio I also couldn't resist this lovely bundle and some yardage of the Figo's Desert Wilderness line.

 

And these two pieces came home with me too because they are so pretty.  Did you notice that I didn't buy one piece of batik!  Now I should have plenty to sew for my Tuesday quilting group and a local retreat I'll be attending next weekend.  I was out of projects to work on!
