Cottage Quilt

dg1
This is Debbie’s Turning Twenty quilt and it is made from all plaid flannel fabrics.  She made if for her husband and was intended to be  birthday gift two years ago, well we all know how that goes!  So she is hoping to give it to him as surprise for his birthday next month or give it to him sooner as they just purchases a cottage. I think this would make a great cuddle quilt for their new cottage!

dg2
I used Dream Puff batting and brown So Fine thread on top and golden Bottom Line on the back.  The panto is called Bushberries and I think it really looks great on the flannels!

Debbie also send me a sweet wall hanging and the pattern is called Fairhaven by Villa Rosa Designs.  I used Northwinds for the design on this one.

Floating Squares Quilt

as1

This is Adell’s Floating Squares quilt.  The pattern is from MSQC and you can watch the tutorial on YouTube here.    I love the bright colours Adell chose for this quilt as they pop against the white background.   I picked Deja Vu for the pantograph and used white So Fine thread on top and white Bottom Line on the back.

Life at the Lake

kayak3

I try not to quilt in the evenings and weekends on the Spring/Summer months and spent that time enjoying the outdoors.  But on Wednesday I played hooky and spent the day on the water. How could I not,  look how calm the lake was!  I love our rocky shores and watching the fish swimming under my kayak.

I noticed an otter swimming along the shoreline so got out my camera. He climbed up the rocks and started rolling around in the moss.  My view of him was hidden by a tree so I quietly drifted up to where I could see him and got a picture. He quickly noticed me and didn’t want to stick around for more pictures.

I also saw eagles, pelicans, loons and a family of ducks.  I counted 10 ducklings with this mama!  Then last night we had our first bear visitor of the season in our yard.  Just a young bear that was probably just kicked out by his mom.

Write on White Quilt

rb1

This is Rae’s Write on White quilt and the pattern and fabric line, called Reel Time, is by Zen Chic.  We thought it needed simple quilting to keep the modern feel and decided on free hand wavy lines.   The batting is Quilters Dream Blend and the thread is off white So Fine.

The backing is so fun, it is one of the fabrics from the Reel Time line.

Sunflower Gatherings Quilt

mr6

This is Marlene’s Sunflower Gatherings Quilt and it is a pattern by Primitive Gatherings, you can get the pattern or kit here.  Marlene did all the beautiful wool applique by hand using a buttonhole stitch and did a fantastic  job with her piecing as well.    She changed the applique design a bit in the outer border and said she left more room for me to add quilting details.  I quilted feathers and pebbles in the back ground fabrics and CC’d all the pieced squares.  It was pretty intense quilting for me but I don’t mind the challenge once in awhile.

mr13

I used a beige 100wt Invisifil thread on this quilt as I find that is the best thread to use for dense quilting designs.

The batting is Quilters Dream Blend batting.

2011 Mystery Quilt #15

an1

Well it’s been a very long time since I quilted one of these quilts!  It was our guilds 2011 Mystery Project and I quilted 14 of them in 2011/2012.   The pattern is called Stars for Audrey and this just so happens to be Audrey’s quilt.  She used shades of teal for her prints and a medium brown for the background.   She gave me a list of pantos she likes and I chose Come Dance with Me from her list.  Quilters Dream Blend batting and brown So Fine thread.

Modern Grey and White Neutrals Quilt

sd3

This is Sandra’s Modern Grey and White Neutrals quilt and there is a tutorial on the Diary of a Quilters blog here.   I actually was Sandra’s personal shopper for this quilt as I picked out the fabrics for her when I was down in Swan River teaching at Fabriculous.   A lot of the fabrics are Zen Chic fabrics from the Modern Background Essentials line but we through in a few other fabrics to give it more variety.  The HST blocks are squared up to  7 1/2” and Sandra made her layout a bit bigger from the tutorial instructions by adding more blocks.

She asked for a swirly panto so I picked Bora Bora. I used white So Fine thread and Quitlers Dream Blend batting.  She made this quilt for a wedding gift for a young couple that has decorated their house in all grey and neutrals so it should fit in beautifully!

Well our weather has changed drastically in the last week from freezing temperature and snow to sunny 27’c today!  Time to get out the kayaks!
