Stepping Stone Stars Quilt

Marie made this lovely Stepping Stone Stars quilt using a block pattern from the Quiltmakers 100 Blocks, Vol 7 magazine.  Its constructed as a 12" block but looks like it is made up of smaller 6" blocks.

The fabrics all have tiny flower and leaf designs in the prints so I chose Wildflowers for the pantograph.  I used a light green So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

Ohio Star Fade Quilt

Lucinda picked fabrics for this lovely Ohio Star Fade quilt to give it the feel of a sunset. The pattern is by Stacey Zaleski and in the May/June 2018 issue of Quilty magazine. As you can see in the next photo it has an asymmetrical design.

I picked the Ombre pantograph, first times using it, and it gives the feel of flames from the sun!  I used white So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

Haulin' Stash Quilts

Peggy made two of these great looking dump truck quilts for her grandsons, one in red and one in blue.  The pattern is called Haulin' Stash by Kelli Fannin Quilt Designs.  Now if you have this pattern please go check the designers website for the corrections, link here.  The first printing had an error and unfortunately Peggy didn't realize this until she had both top together and it wasn't measure anywhere close to the finished size.  The sash strips were not included in the instructions. So she ripped the blocks apart and added the sashing...on both!  So this is a good reminder to always check a designers correction page on their websites before starting a new project because as a pattern designer myself this can happen to the best of us!

I used Bora Bora for the pantograph, white So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

Peggy used grunge fabrics for the trucks and background and that really adds to the design. She also fussy cut the truck window to have a little driver in each truck.

Here is the blue one!  I think her grandsons are going to love these quilts!

Level Two Tote

Since social distancing is the new normal I'm trying my best to balance work and my personal sewing projects now that all my sewing group activities are cancelled.  Today I was able to finished this great bag project, the pattern is called Level Two Tote by Poppyprint.

I used a purple cork that I purchased at Up North Quilt Shop and added a multi-coloured batik for the top level.

The lining is a great Ink and Arrow fabric.  I added two inset zippered pockets to the inside lining as I prefer those to open pockets. The patterns also called for using an extra piece of leather for the inside of the bag where the rivets are but I had extra pieces of cork so used those instead.

Sprinkles on Top Quilt

Kim made this lovely modern neutral quilt from a pattern in the book Jelly Filled Quilts by Vanessa from Lella Boutique.  The pattern is called Sprinkles on Top and used 2 1/2" strips.

I quilted it with the Bayside pantograph, used light grey So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.  The quilting shows up beautifully on the Minky backing.

It was a beautiful day yesterday with blue skies and today we woke up to a few inches of snow on the ground and it is still falling!

City Slicker in Modern Brights

Vicki made this bright and cheerful City Slicker quilt using a selection of modern fabrics by Tula Pink, Kaffe Fasset, Blueberry Hill and Grunge Dots.  She added a subtle white on white print for the background to allow the fabric to shine!

I used a new pantograph called Gingersnap, white So Fine thread and Quilters Dream blend batting.

The backing is a bright blue Northcott Essence.

Labyrinth Walk #3

Gay made this fantastic Labyrinth Walk quilt for her grandson's graduation gift.   This is the second one I have quilted for her as she made the exact same one for another grandson two years ago.  Grandson #2 asked for the same quilt for his grad gift so I also custom quilted it the same as the other one.  You can see the blog post for her first one here.

I quilted the light areas with pebbles, a water meander in the medium grey, SID around the black and diagonal lines for the outer border.

I matched thread colours to the fabric on each section using So Fine thread on top and a medium shade of grey Bottom Line in the bobbin to match the grey Fireside on the back.  Batting is Quilters Dream Blend.

Rope Bowls with Cork.

I had a little fun yesterday making Rope Bowls.  I purchased a bundle of braided cotton clothesline from the hardware store a few months ago and finally got around give it a go.  I made these years ago but wrapped the rope with strips of batik and that was not only a time consuming method it was hard on my sewing machine!  So this time I tried with just the rope, it was fast and my machine didn't complain!

I had a few pieces of left over cork from wallet and purse projects so they made great accent tabs on the bowls. (It also covers up the end of the cord)

I used one bundle to make the four bowls.  It was 6mm x 30.5m and medium strength line. I set my zig zag stitch to 4.5 wide and 2.5 in length.  I used cotton thread on this project as I first thought I would dye the bowls after they were sewn so that the thread would take the dye as well.  I might still try this,as well as dyeing the rope first then sew into bowls.  So I think I'll be making a few more.

Let's Be Friends Sew Along Quilt

Linda made this great quilt using Cantik Batiks Canada collection.  She participated in a Border Creek Station Sew Along 2019 called Let's Be Friends for the pattern.

Since she used a Canadian themed fabric line I knew Maple Syrup was the perfect panto for it.  I even able to center the leaf design on both sides of the quilt in the borders, pure luck it worked out that way!

I used white So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.  You can see how fresh snow doesn't look white when you put a white quilt on it! :)
