Laundry Basket Designs 2021 Mystery Quilt

Gail participated in Laundry Basket Quilts 2021 Mystery quilt and she used bright batiks from her stash to make this gorgeous quilt! You can find the instructions for this project on Laundry Basket Quilts website.  I quilted it with Fanciful Flyers pantograph, off white So Fine thread and used Quilter Dream white 80/20.

She added her own border design and the outer border fabric is a hummingbird print!

We have been enjoying a beautiful fall!  Last two days have been record breaking temperatures of 28'c which is rare for this time of year here. Flowers are all still in bloom and ones that were done in August have rebloomed! 

I just saw this was my 1500 post for my blog!  12 years of blogging, that's a lot of quilts!

Meadowland #3

Peggy made this lovely modern Meadowland quilt designed by Then Came June. She used the 'In the Woods' collection by Cotton & Steel.  I quilted it with the Bayside pantograph, light beige So Fine thread and used Quilters Dream Blend batting.

The prints in this fabric is so cute with bunnies, snails, mushrooms and acorns.

Its a rare calm fall day here to ran down to the river to get photos. You can even see the moon in these images. 

Warm Winter Blessings Quilt

Linda made this sweet Warm Winter Blessings quilt, which is a pattern by Primitive Gatherings.  The snowmen are wool machine applique with hand embroidery details.  I did light custom quilting by quilting feather swirls in the outer border, swirls in the inner border and SID in the sashing. I alternated the background quilting in the blocks with a stipple or a gentle vertical wavy lines. 

I used navy and beige So Fine thread and Quilters Dream 80/20.  Linda sent a lovely blue-grey Fireside for the backing. 

We had a 12 hour thunderstorm a few nights ago and measured 3 1/2” of rain.  Since we had such a dry summer my opportunities to take lightening photos were rare so enjoyed watching the storm with my camera in hand. 

Midnight Silhouette Quilt

Christine sent me a very special quilt to finish for her.  The quilt top was made by her good friend Anne who passed away last year. Anne was an amazing quilter and was very generous in sharing her quilting knowledge with others.  She had many quilting projects in the works and her wonderful quilting friends have been busy completing these treasures as they are part of her quilting legacy.  This quilt is called Midnight Silhouette, designed by Blackbird Designs. I asked Christine if she knew the story behind this quilt and she said it was a project of Anne's that she had not seen before so didn't know much about it.  She was surprised to see a cat quilt in her collection as she described Anne as 'not' a cat person.  I can related to that and find that I am drawn to this quilt too, the cat totally sets the mood of this quilt without being overly Halloween themed. Its a great design and Anne's piecing and applique skills made it a breeze to quilt.

 I quilted it with the Gossamer pantograph which looks like spider webs.  Used black So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

Christine sent this lovely orange/pumpkin coloured backing that really compliments the quilt top. 

The leaves are just starting to turn here and I'm sure by next week will be in full autumn colours. 

Irish Chain Quilt

Bev made this beautiful Irish Chain quilt using a lovely Lilac print fabric with purple and green to accent fabrics.  I quilted it with the Mimosa pantograph, used purple So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

 

Four Patch Charm Quilt in Batiks

Brigitt made my Four Patch Charm quilt for a teenage girl and used beautiful blue, green and purple batiks!   You can find this pattern free on my sidebar.  Brigitt didn't use Charm packs but cut her squares out of yardage so made them bigger!  Her blocks ended up measuring 7 1/2" and the final quilt was 76" x 81".  So if you have been wanting to make this pattern but a bit larger that is one way to do it!

I quilted it with the Tickle pantograph, used white So Fine thread and Quilters Dream white 80/20.

Brigitt brought this gorgeous blue Bliss backing by Northcott! 

On Friday it was 25'c and sunny so we headed out to Sable Islands Provincial Nature Preserve on Lake of the Woods.  Its only an hour drive from our house. We had heard about this area a few years ago but had no idea how to get there by kayak. It turns out they is only one public launch spot close to it and it is very well hidden, probably a local secret! :)  It is a beautiful long sandy esker island in very shallow water so perfect to kayak too. We are trying to make the best of our short summers before weather turns cool!

We kayaking about 8km along its shoreline and only saw one other family.  

Mineral Matrix #4

This is Gay's beautiful Mineral Matrix quilt which was a BOM from Up North Quilt Shop 3 years ago.  The pattern is by A Wing and a Prayer.  Gay brought a Hobbs 80/20 batting and I used a medium beige So Fine thread.  Pantograph design is called Taro which works wonderful on the botanical themed batiks.

My feathered fleece throw is a great accent as it is often thrown on my Mineral Matrix quilt.  If your curious how I make my fleece throws you can check out this old blog post. 

I was pretty surprised when I laid Gay's quilt on top of mine and realized how much mine has faded in 3 years from the sunlight!  But it happens so gradual and I still love mine! :)

So here is my latest Critter pictures from our kayaking adventure on Rainy Lake last weekend.  We spotted about 4 otters during this paddle and I was able to get a few shots of the baby otter running and hiding in the crevasses in the outcrops. He is hard to see as his fur blends so well into his surroundings.
