Bjorn Bear Quilt

Kim made this super sweet Bjorn Bear quilt, pattern by Elizabeth Hartman, for the arrival of a new grandchild in California.  I really liked her thinking on this one as she said California's state animal is the bear so it only made sense she pick a bear out of all the cute animal patterns on the market these days!   The fabrics are all from Road 17N in Winkler, MB.   Kim just called and they put together this great grouping of fabrics in Kim's colour palette. 

Check out this backing!  It is Sherpa Cuddle in an oatmeal colour.  It is thick and cozy and easy to quilt on the longarm.

I picked Popcorn for the pantograph, a light blue/teal So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

Had to take the bears out into the woods for a photo shoot now that the snow is all gone, ground has dried and weather warming up.

Kim also made 2 pillows that I quilted for her as well.  The bears in glasses are so cute!

Farmall Tractor Quilt

Gail made this fun Farmall Tractor wall hanging using a fabric panel by Print Concepts called Farmall Hometown Life.  She made it to hang at their family farm which has been in the family for over a 100 years.  Her dad had a Farmall tractor so I'm sure will bring back great memories for everyone that sees it hanging at the farm.

Gail added fussy cut stars and flying geese in the border for extra details.

It has been so windy here so I was excited to get a few good shots of it on this fence rail.  Most of my pictures looked like this...

Smoke and Fire Quilt

Vicki made this striking Smoke and Fire quilt which was a pattern in Fons and Porter's Quilting Quickly magazine July/Aug 2015 edition.  She used a great mix of black and white prints with the perfect pop of red.

I quilted it with the Gingersnap pantograph, light grey So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

Dino Quilt

Sarah-Lynn made this cute Dinosaur quilt for her grandson using a picture panel collection called 'Dino Age by Matthew Pridemore.   She didn't use a pattern and created the arrow blocks to mimic dinosaur footprints.   After seeing the leaf fabrics used in the arrows I realized my Big Leaf pantograph would be perfect.

I used brown So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

A really neat feature she added was her grandsons name to the back of the quilt. She positioned it so when the quilt was turned down at the pillow top you could see his name.  Very clever.  And yes she knows the 'S' is backwards and was okay with it, I double checked before I quilted it! It adds a whimsical element to the quilt.

Summer Memories

Lori created this lovely Loon quilt using a panel by David Textiles called Summer Memories.  She also appliqued three extra loons onto the quilt in the borders.  I quilted it with the Ripples pantograph and used a light brown thread.  Batting is an 80/20 Pellen.

The backing was a soft brown flannel which really shows off the quilting pattern.

Cardinals

Lori made this lovely panel quilt using the Cardinal Call of the Wild panel by Hoffman Fabrics.  She designed the layout herself and added the pinwheels and stars.  I quilted it with the Snow Winds pantograph, used light grey So Fine thread and she brought Pellon 80/20 batting. 

Red and Beige Quilt

Kim made this charming quilt using fabrics from her stash!  She loves Primitive Gatherings style quilts and used their brand of Triangle Paper to make the 2 1/2" HST blocks. You can find those papers on their website, link here.  I watched her make the HST blocks at our Tuesday sewing group and then play around with the block layout until she came up with this 10" block layout.  Looks great! 

Since the print has such tiny leaf/flower details I chose Wildflower for the pantograph as it has a dainty feel too!  Thread is a beige So Fine and batting is Quilters Dream Blend.

Periwinkle Quilt

Bev made this stunning Periwinkle quilt, pattern by Missouri Star Quilt Co.  She used a Christmas themed line of fabric called 'Overnight Delivery" by Sweetwater from Moda Fabrics.   The Santa fabric in the outer border with the plaid inner border was a great finishing touch!

I quilted Beadboard in the outer border in Black So Fine thread and continuous curves in the star design using an off white So Fine thread. 

 I created a star template using my EQ8 program to use in the center of the black background and then pebbled around it.  I found the same block in the EQ8 block library and drew in the star so the points matched up with the seam lines.  I like to use the seams as design guides as much as possible when I custom quilt. I then printed it out, stitched holes in the paper using my sewing machine and then used my Pounce chalk to mark it on the quilt top.

As you can see our snow is all gone but it is still cool and windy.  I'm patiently waiting for spring to arrive but so nice to see the sunshine!

Keyhole Quilt

Marie pieced this great quilt called Keyhole, a pattern by Missouri Star Quilt Company.  She used batik fabrics in shades of light to dark brown.

I quilted it with the Mimosa pantograph, used a peachy beige So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.
