This past week I have taken on the task of painting my kitchen table and chair set. I inherited this set when my mom sold the family cottage and it has worked well in our home but it was time for an update. I’m trying to reduce the amount of oak tones in my house and changing over to darker browns and beiges. My friend Wendy sells Plaster Paint at her quilt shop in Swan River, MB so I bought a container of Espresso for the top and two cans of Sweet Cream for the legs and chairs. I used two coats of liquid wax to create the shine. The best part about this job was you don’t have to sand down the furniture before painting, just give it all a good wash! And with all the spindles on my chairs that made the job so much easier.
Here is the before and after! Love the after!
I have also been ice dyeing again! I tried some new colour combinations.
This was Slate Blue and Orange!
I love your table redo. It is beautiful. I would love to try this on some very old oak end tables that I have. How did you keep from getting brush strokes?
ReplyDeleteI need that paint for my kitchen table, too.
ReplyDeleteI'm always a little wary of "just paint it" thinking on certain types of woodwork. Your table is a wonderful example or when that goes right. Hope you enjoy your 'new' table for a long time.
ReplyDeleteFabulous update! I'm not familiar with plaster paint - is it a thicker paint? I also wonder about brush strokes - that's what always frustrates me when I'm painting furniture. Love your latest ice dyes, too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a difference paint can make!
ReplyDeletei don't see quilts hanging over the backs of the furniture in the living room
ReplyDeleteThe couch on the right has a quilt crumpled on it (Tim's nap quilt!) And the brown leather chair has one smooshed into the set! The rest are nicely folded on the ladder, in the hutch and coffee table. :)
DeleteWow what a difference in your table and chairs! They stand out against the wood floor and I think they now "fit in" better with your décor. Love your latest ice dyed fabrics - really great patterns with the dye.
ReplyDeleteKitchen suite looks terrific. I'm always afraid to paint over a wood finish, I just love what you've done.
