Labyrinth Walk Quilt #4

Patti made this lovely Labyrinth Walk quilt, a pattern by The Guilty Quilter.  She used all batik fabrics and I love the shades of purple against the black background.  Patti asked for it to be custom quilted like the other ones I have done so that saved me time on the planning stage.

I quilted the light purple area with pebbles, the dark purple with water meander and all the seams are SID.  I did a diagonal lines in the outer border that kept with the angles at the two corners.

The backing was a lovely grey Grunge fabric.  I used 4 different So Fine thread colours on top ( white, black, light purple and dark purple) and two Bottom Line colours on the back ( black in border only and light purple for the rest).

The river is trying to freeze but it will probably be a few more weeks until that happens.

Family Treasure

Marlene sent me a very special quilt top to custom quilt for her.  This beautiful hand appliqued quilt was made by her sister-in-law Anne and her mother-in-law as a joint project. They both since passed away and Marlene discovered the top while going through Anne's quilting supplies. What a treasure to discover amongst all the finished quilt tops Anne had made over the years.    We do not know the name of the pattern but if you are familiar with it can you please let me know!  ( Thank you to my blog reader Karen who commented the pattern is called The Blessings by Robyn Fallon of Bon Bon Designs!)

I quilted it with open feathers in the outer border, SID around the applique petals and added tall loops in each piece.  I SID around all the applique in each block, added curls in the sashing and feathers in the background of the blocks to match the outer border.

Marlene sent a lovely grey Fireside backing and it really added to the custom quilting giving it great texture.

I used 3 colours of Bottom Line 60 wt thread on the top and grey Bottom Line on the back.  Batting is a white poly.

I'm sure this quilt will be treasured by Marlene and her family and fill them with wonderful memories of Anne and her mom.  It was an honor to be have a small part in its completion.

Labyrinth Walk #3

Gay made this fantastic Labyrinth Walk quilt for her grandson's graduation gift.   This is the second one I have quilted for her as she made the exact same one for another grandson two years ago.  Grandson #2 asked for the same quilt for his grad gift so I also custom quilted it the same as the other one.  You can see the blog post for her first one here.

I quilted the light areas with pebbles, a water meander in the medium grey, SID around the black and diagonal lines for the outer border.

I matched thread colours to the fabric on each section using So Fine thread on top and a medium shade of grey Bottom Line in the bobbin to match the grey Fireside on the back.  Batting is Quilters Dream Blend.
