Alternate Routes Quilt #12

I always enjoy quilting a Highway 10 Designs quilt, especially one that is 10 years in the making.  Melanie started this quilt when Lori and I presented this pattern to our guilds as a Mystery quilt 11 years ago so I was very touched that Melanie reached out to me to see if I would quilt it for her.

This pattern is called Alternate Routes and has 20 layout options but we like to encourage quilters to think out of the box and use those layouts as inspiration.  Melanie liked the asymmetrical layouts and created this lovely design with a star in the upper corner.

I quilted it with the Taro Pantograph, used beige So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.  Melanie sent a lovely beige Fireside for the backing so it will be great to snuggle under.

We have had a lot of snowfall this week, so spring is still feels a long way away. But the temperatures are starting to get above freezing so there is hope it melts soon.

The Northern Lights were dancing across Canada last night and I wouldn't miss an opportunity to take pictures when they appear.

Rarely do they appear overhead this far south so it really reminded me of the nights watching the aurora in northern Manitoba.
