Family Treasure

Marlene sent me a very special quilt top to custom quilt for her.  This beautiful hand appliqued quilt was made by her sister-in-law Anne and her mother-in-law as a joint project. They both since passed away and Marlene discovered the top while going through Anne's quilting supplies. What a treasure to discover amongst all the finished quilt tops Anne had made over the years.    We do not know the name of the pattern but if you are familiar with it can you please let me know!  ( Thank you to my blog reader Karen who commented the pattern is called The Blessings by Robyn Fallon of Bon Bon Designs!)

I quilted it with open feathers in the outer border, SID around the applique petals and added tall loops in each piece.  I SID around all the applique in each block, added curls in the sashing and feathers in the background of the blocks to match the outer border.

Marlene sent a lovely grey Fireside backing and it really added to the custom quilting giving it great texture.

I used 3 colours of Bottom Line 60 wt thread on the top and grey Bottom Line on the back.  Batting is a white poly.

I'm sure this quilt will be treasured by Marlene and her family and fill them with wonderful memories of Anne and her mom.  It was an honor to be have a small part in its completion.

  4. A treasure for sure. The creators did a wonderful job. It is so unfortunate they did not get to see their creation quilted but their memories will live on in each stitch for their family. How honoured you must be, Kathy to have been entrusted with the quilting. Great job

  11. Oh myyyy .... could "The Blessing" be anymore appropriate for this quilt? A blessing that Marlene found it, and made sure that this special treasure was an UFO, no longer. A blessing that you are so talented to make this quilt shine even brighter than it ever could. Yes, a blessing, all round!

  12. Totally awesome from the pattern, the lovely applique, the colors and last but certainly not least is the perfect quilting that enhances the whole quilt. You did a wonderful job quilting this and showcasing the rest of the quilt. The name is certainly fitting. Great job, Kathy!
