Sheep Shape Quilt

ho2

This is Heather’s Sheep Shape quilt and it is a pattern from a 2014 Quiltmaker magazine. The quilt is made up of large half hexagons and the sheep is made with white Fireside fabric so it is very soft.  The ears and legs of the sheep are floppy so a baby can touch and grab onto them as they lay on the quilt.  Heathers only quilting request was the the sheep be quilted with curls!

I used a few different colour of So Fine thread, white, blue, green and pink, on this quilt top.  The batting is Quilters Dream Puff which is great for baby quilts.

Heather made this quilt for someone very special, her granddaughter Baby P!  Baby P was born at 23 weeks and weighed 1 lb, 7 oz.  With the amazing care from the Dr.s, nurses, respiratory therapists and support staff at the NICU at Children's Hospital in Winnipeg, Baby P was giving the chance to live and grow and has reached 7 lbs at 4 months old (her due date).  Baby P’s parents gave permission for me to share her story and photo.  Baby P’s mom knit this Sweet Pea costume for her first Halloween, how adorable it that picture!  Baby P’s mom love to spin, knit and loves everything to do with wool so the Sheep themed baby quilt was the perfect choice.

  1. Awwwwwwwwwwwww Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet!!
was what I was saying as I saw sheepie with her curls. Yes indeed, curls were in order.
    Good choice, Grandma Heather!
Then the flood of tears came, as I read Baby P's story, and her first Halloween costume.
I am thrilled for them that she has progressed so well, and send many good wishes
for continued growth and health for this Sweet Pea!

  5. What a beautiful quilt! I love baby quilts with floppy ears. I was born in Winnipeg many years ago. I have lived in the US since I was 3 but I feel a special fondness for the city. I am loving that adorable grandbaby photo in the knitted pod. May she continue to thrive and grow to be a strong, happy and generous young woman!!!

  7. How cute is that quilt and sweet Baby P! That is the first hexie quilt that I have even considered making. And your quilting certainly added to it's cuteness. I love it!

  9. Very cute quilt. I'm so happy she made it. My granddaughter was the same, but unfort. for us, God called her home. I can't imagine abortions being done at that stage, it astounds me...if only they could see that it's really a human being & not all about themselves...anyways, God Bless & I hope she is doing very well.
