Lug Nuts Sew Along

I'm excited to share this quilt with you!   My friend Missy who owns Up North Quilt Shop in International Falls, MN is having a Lug Nuts Sew Along at her shop and it kicks off this Saturday. Check out her Facebook page for more details!  I quilted her shop sample and it is made with Timeless Treasures Tonga Batiks Sumatra line! Love the mix of beige, gold and dark brown/black, so rich looking.  She has kits made up in this line but you can also pick your own colours to make this quilt.  I'll be there and happy to give my opinion on fabric selections if asked!  I can't count how many times I've been in a fabric shop and find myself helping other quilters pick fabrics for their projects when I see them looking overwhelmed.  That is one of my favorite parts of quilting ...shopping for the fabric!

I quilted this sample with the Fascination pantograph, used beige So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.   Its hard to see the quilting as the sun hasn't been seen here in a few weeks. I got tired of waiting but the resulting photos are very true to the colours of the fabrics.

I put together a few collages to show how great our Highway 10 Design pattern looks in so many colour ways for inspiration for the event.

Spinning Stars Quilt

This is Lucinda's Spinning Stars quilt and it is a paper pieced pattern by Cheryl Brickley of Meadow Mist Designs.  The pattern can be found in Modern Patchwork Magazine Nov/Dec 2018 edition ( their last edition published before closing) or at Meadow Mist Designs Etsy shop.

Love the fabrics Lucinda pieced as it makes the stars look like snowflakes.    I used Bora Bora for the pantograph design, used white So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

Lucinda brought a beautiful blue and green batik backing.

Catching Up!

I have a few quilts to share as I catch up on my blog posts.  I was away last weekend at a Quilt Retreat in Gimli but now back to work. This is Lori's Cat quilt and is a pattern is called Cat City by Villa Rosa Designs.  I like how she made one purple cat in this clowder of black and grey cats.

I used a new pantograph called London Fog and love how it looks like cat tails on some of the cats!

I also finished quilting this scrappy quilt for Doris using Happy Times for the pantograph.

Then I also finished one for Anne-Marie that her mom pieced for her. She picked out fabrics in lovely shades of grey with a blue border.  I used Allium for the pantograph.

Saw some wonderful Sundogs on my drive home from the Gimli retreat on Monday.

Grey and Teal Quarter Sections

Nancy made this modern version of our Highway 10 Designs Quarter Sections quilt using shades of grey and a pop of teal!  Love how this turned out.  She is going to keep this one for herself to put on a guest bed.

I quilted it with the Bayside pantograph to add some curves, thread is grey So Fine and batting is Quilters Dream Blend.

Colourful Baby Quilt

Vicki made this fun and bright baby quilt using an colourful animal print.  She didn't use a pattern but cut a large center piece and framed it in red.  Then fussy cut animals for the outer border and framed those individually.

I recently purchased a few new pantographs and used a new one called Whitecaps on Vicki's quilt.

Home Quarter in Winter Shimmer

When I was at the Saskatoon Quilt Show back in October I bought a fat quarter bundle of Winter Shimmer by Jennifer Sampou. Over the xmas break I decided to make our Highway 10 Designs Home Quarter quilt from it.  I don't usually like metallic fabrics but in this collection it was quite subtle.

I used Dazzle for the pantograph, beige So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.  The backing is Northcott's beige Canvas collection.

For xmas Tim took a few of my photos and has them enlarged on canvas.  This is one of our favorite photos from our trip to Churchill 3 years ago and the colours work beautifully in our room. I think that is why I was drawn to this fabric collection as it reminds me of that trip!
