Sunny Days Quilt

This is Lorna’s Sunny Days quilt, designed by The Quilt Patch and I actually helped her piece and appliqué this quilt top 5 years ago, that was before I got my longarm.   Lorna hand stitched around all the appliqué pieces with a button hole stitch and it really adds to the folksy feel of the quilt.  I knew it had to be stippled and also have some loops and stars as that goes with the feel of the country style quilt.  I then added bead board quilting to the outer border.

 

I stitched in the ditch around all the appliqué and added pebbles to the center of the sunflowers and veins to the leaves.  Quilters Dream Blend batting and 5 different So Fine thread.

We have been getting some well needed rain in the evenings and the other night I noticed a rainbow at sunset.  This photo was taken at 10:30pm so the sky was pink.

Yellow Turning Twenty

 
This is Jo-Ann’s Turning Twenty quilt and she used a great variety of yellow and floral prints, mostly sunflowers.  I used the Come Dance with Me panto, yellow So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

She had a fun sunflower print for the backing too.

You may have noticed I have a new display area for my quilting.  I noticed three wooden posts laying behind our garage and I asked my husband what his plan was for them, he had no plan.  So he built me a very short fence along our property line so I could use it to display quilts!  My neighbours probably think we are very strange as it definitely won’t keep anything in or out!  But that’s okay because I love it!

Speaking of yard projects, last week I said to Tim “ we should really get rid of that old stump, it would make the front yard look so much better”. Well my husband is a handy motivated man and next thing I knew he was out there digging and working on the new ‘stump removal project”. The stump as much larger than I first realized!

After a few days of digging and sawing, we couldn’t use a chain saw as there were many large boulders under the roots, Tim finally got it out.  My first thought was “Yup, that definitely makes the yard look better”  LOL!


We managed to get it into our utility trailer using a comealong and some chains, so it is now gone!   The hole is filled in and the yard looks much better!   Now I’m eyeing another stump…much smaller but I don’t think I’ll say anything for a few more weeks!  :)

Happy Halloween

This is Rae’s Halloween Quilt and she saw a picture of a quilt similar in a magazine and based her quilt on the photo, so no pattern.  She used fun Halloween fabrics and I like how she sashed it with black and added the orange corner stones.

She created a cool backing with spider web fabric and added an offset row of squares.

I used a new panto called Gossamer, it reminds me of a spiders webs!     Quilters Dream Blend batting and black So Fine thread.

Field Greens Quilt

 

This is Linda’s Field Greens quilt by Madison Cottage Designs.  When she  first contacted me she said the quilt was 72”x 72” but the the time she was ready to send it to me the quilt has grown to 97” x120”!   I’m sure we can all relate to that!   :)  Her husband really liked the colours in this quilt and they decided to make it bigger for their bed.

Linda requested a panto called Bountiful Feathers so I ordered that one plus a few more!

I used Quilters Dream Blend batting and green So Fine thread.

We had some crazy cold and rainy weather this week and on Friday we even had SNOW!!  Glad that is gone and I hope we don’t see that again until the fall.

Sea Glass

 

This is Eileen’s Sea Glass quilt that she made from Kim Brackett’s book Scrap-Basket Beauties.  She used a variety of greens and a few brown fabrics that were a mix of regular cotton and batiks.   The backing is a soft green/grey Stonehenge fabric.

The pantograph is called Flirtatious, I used a medium green So Fine thread and the batting is Quilters Dream Blend.

Doesn’t that lake look so inviting!   My husband has been catching Northern Pike off the dock ( catch and release) and I think we will get the kayaks out of storage and go for a paddle this weekend if it is calm.   The lake is 52’F so still quite chilly!

Autumn Braid

 

This is Robin’s Autumn Braid quilt and she used the pattern by Cozy Quilt Designs as inspiration.  Robin changed the pattern a bit and used the Trapezoid Strip Ruler to make her braids so they are narrower than what you see on the pattern.  She used a Stonehenge collection for her quilt and I think this is a perfect example of matching the right fabric with the right pattern!

I used a soft green So Fine thread, Quilters Dream Blend batting and Fascination for the pantograph design.

International Round Robin – Third Round

You might remember that I’m doing a Round Robin with Lori, Desley and Bronwyn and we just finished our third round which was to put the block on-point and add the WOW factor.   We didn’t disappoint, they all look GREAT!!    I was working on Bronwyn’s this time and added a Celtic appliqué design.

Lori worked on Desley’s block and an added a quarter Dresden to each corner.   It looks so nice and leaves a lot of room for Desley to quilt in!  :)

Desley worked on my block and added interlocking borders design and repeated my center star in the corners.  Love it!!

And Bronwyn worked on Lori’s block and hand appliquéd those fun feather shapes that look like colourful water splashes using her hand dyed fabrics.

I’m so impressed with how these are turning out.  There is one more round and I just received Lori’s block from Bronwyn yesterday so I better get Bronwyn’s block off to Desley next week!  

Fresh Diamonds

 

Eileen and Phyl worked on this quilt together as it is a wedding gift for a friend of theirs.  The pattern is called Fresh Diamonds and you can find it free on Craftsy here.   It’s a great pattern to use up scraps!   I quilted it with the Popcorn panto, used light brown So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting.

The leaves are starting to pop out and I might get brave this weekend and buy a few flowers and plant my vegetable garden. The ice on the lake has only been gone a week!

Under The Sea

 

This is Phyl’s quilt and she used a fabric collection called Under the Sea by Heidi Pridemore.   She made this quilt for a young girl who lives on the west coast so I’m sure she will love it!   The black sashing really makes the blocks pop!

I used the Curlz pantograph, a blue Lava thread and Dream Puff batting.
