This is Eileen’s Strips and Salsa quilt, a pattern by G.E. Designs. She used soft colours and made a beautiful baby quilt with the patterns. I used Deja Vu for the panto design, Quilters Dream Puff batting and a white So Fine thread.
This is Moira’s Mahjongg quilt that she made in our beginner class. I believe this is the first quilt she has made and did a wonderful job! She picked all batik fabrics and I really like the focus fabric she chose in greens, reds and golds.
She made the smallest size as one of the fabric she purchased was cut too short so she just added extra borders to make it lap size, great fix! I used Quilters Dream Blend, light beige So Fine thread and the Mimosa pantograph.
Well it has been cloudy here the last couple of nights so have not been able to see any more Northern Lights. Hope some of you were luckier!
I heard there were solar flares yesterday so kept my eye to the sky last night and was not disappointed. Between 10pm and 11pm I stood outside with my camera at the ready on it’s tripod and I was rewarded with a few good shots. The moon was just rising so I didn’t have a dark sky but it created a beautiful effect with the aurora. While I was out in the dark I kept hearing noises in the bush so that was creeping me out until I heard a splash….it was just a beaver. Then more noise in a tree so I shone my flashlight on it and suddenly saw something jump out of it into the next tree! It was a flying squirrel! I knew they were in our area but had never seen on before. So it was a good night to be outside watching the aurora….especially with no bugs and not in the negative temperatures yet!

Then over the house. They got very active for a few minutes then just died out.
Look to the sky tonight where you are and see if you can see them! I’m hoping they will be good again tonight.
Last September I started a Round Robin with Lori, Desley and Bronwyn. It was a year long project and I can now share the results with you as all the tops are done. I worked on Lori’s for the last round and added a colourful piano key border using our hand dyed fabrics. I really wanted the piecing and applique in her quilt to pop and by not adding white to the outer border I think that worked. I arranged the colors so they spread from the corners.
Now here are the other Round Robin tops.
This is Bronwyn’s Round Robin that Desley worked on for the last round. Desley added the four patch diamonds, red print fabric border and then repeated the four patch design again.
This is Desley’s Round Robin top that Bronwyn worked on for the last round.
Bronwyn repeated the three strip border design, added the pieced ‘Delectable Mountains’ style design and then repeated the three strip border again.
This is my Round Robin top that Lori worked on this round.
Lori added the dark blue outer border with the blue triangular designs. I really like how it turned out and now have to start thinking about how to quilt it!
And here is Lori’s Round Robin block again. It always amazes me how they all turn out so different and if you ever have the opportunity to join in a Round Robin I would highly recommend it. Our guild is starting one this month so I hope our members have their blocks ready for next weeks meeting.

This is Donna’s Mahjongg quilt that she made at our guilds beginner class and she used fabric from her stash to make this quilt. She had hockey and snow boarding themed fabrics and wanted to make hers larger as it was a gift for a 12 year old boy and she wanted it for his bed. She added extra borders to make it queen size. I used the Fascination Panto, Quilters Dream Blend batting and a blue So Fine thread.
After my post on the Stitch and Flip baby quilts last week I had a few emails asking about the process so thought I would share it in a tutorial to keep on my sidebar. Even since I got my longarm I have wanted to try this method as I knew it would be a fast method to making comfort quilts for charities. I recently purchases a cute fabric collection called Precious from the Fabric Shack, it was only $4.98/yd. I bought 1/2 yard cuts of 7 fabrics and cut each fabric into one 6” strip WOF and four 3” strips. I was able to make three baby quilts.
So here is the method, warning this is very addictive, I have now made 13 baby quilts for our guild to donate to the Elk’s Christmas hampers.
First load the backing and batting onto your longarm and using Channel Locks, if you have them, stitch the batting to the backing.
Next place the first strip of fabric next to the stitching line you just made when attaching the batting to the backing. I used this as a guide for keeping my first strip straight. I then stitch down the first strip along the top.
Layer the next fabric strip right, sides together, and stitch along the bottom with a 1/4” seam allowance using your Channel Locks.
Now flip back the second fabric and repeat.
Once you get to the last strip down stitch the bottom edge.
If your making more than one quilt you can make the process even quicker by using a long piece of backing and start your second quilt right under the first one.
The quilt with the 6” wide strips only took a few minutes to stitch up but I like the look of the 3” strips better.
This is a quick and fun method to make beautiful baby quilts and hope this has inspired you to try this method. If you don’t have a longarm I’m sure this could be done on a domestic sewing machine as well.
Back in June I taught a beginner class at our guild for our new members. We made the Mahjongg quilt pattern and this is Susan's lap quilt that she made with beautiful bright batik fabrics. Since this was her first quilt she is keeping it and said its for cuddling on the couch so we decided on Quilters Dream Puff batting. I showed her my book of pantograph designs and she chose Dragonfly Pond for the design.
This is Valery’s Deco Zig Zag quilt which is a Quick Curve Ruler pattern by Sew Kind of Wonderful. I love the border fabric she chose as it has a very modern feel which goes with the pattern. I used the Bountiful Feathers pantograph, light blue So Fine thread and Dream Blend batting.
I was greeted with a beautiful sunrise this morning as our family got back to our regular routine. Daniel was off to school and then I quilted my first quilt for September. This is Sandra’s Halloween quilt that she made for her grandkids to enjoy. I don’t know the name of the fabric line or pattern but it is very cute. Sandra’s 4 year old grandson told her, when he saw the quilt top done, that it ‘wasn’t that scary!’ Guess he was expecting something more creepy and less cute! :)
I quilted it with the Gossamer panto that looks like spider webs. I used black So Fine thread and Quilters Dream black poly batting.
