Its been almost a year since Lori and I have published a pattern for Highway 10 Designs but we are back at it! Today we are introducing our newest pattern called Detour, which includes instructions for a table runner and four place mats. This pattern is now available in our Etsy shop in both formats, PDF download or paper. This pattern only requires 3 fabrics and goes together quickly. It could be made with modern, batik, traditional, seasonal, or holiday fabrics as it suits all styles.
You may have noticed our new Highway 10 Designs logo, we are very excited to have it grace the cover of all our patterns now. Our very talented (and patient) friend Dawn was kind enough to take on this project for us and she did an amazing job bring our vision to life. We wanted it to be bold, rustic, true to our style and most of all eye catching. I think it is all that and more. Here is how all our patterns covers look now.
I have a lot of pictures of Detour to share since I made quite a few samples, it was so quick to make. The pattern is written so you construct the table runner and 4 place mats at the same time using chain piecing methods. This is a real time saver. Also we are excited to create a project that you can quilt yourself! Even though Lori and I are both longarm quilters we love to see how others quilt our patterns and this project is very easy to quilt on your domestic machines. I quilted my samples with that in mind using both straight line and some free motion designs. Lets start with pictures of our cover samples. We used batik fabrics in a teal/brown print for the focus fabric, brown for the dark fabric and beige for the light fabric.
I also made this pattern in a batik brown/blue combination.
Then I made a few table runners to test out more colour combinations. This first one is shades of blue in batiks.
The next one is a soft green/brown combination. This one is my personal favorite as I love soft neutral batiks!
Looks great on my patio table outside too!
Now if you head over to Lori’s blog you will see her Detour samples, here is a peek. This first one is made with Art Gallery fabrics and has a modern feel.
The second one is made with batiks in black, grey and white.
Now to the fun part… the Giveaway! Lori and I are each hosting giveaways with different fabrics so you have two chances to win our new pattern plus fabrics to make it! We are even going to give you a choice of fabrics and all you have to do for my giveaway is leave a comment letting me know what fabric kit you would like to win with the pattern. The two fabric combinations I am offering are:
Kit #1 - A blue batik combination very similar to the blue runner sample.
and Kit #2 – Our cover fabrics in Teal and Brown.
So just leave a comment letting me know which kit you would like to win and that’s it. International entries welcome and anyone should be able to leave a comment under Anonymous if you do not have a blogger/google account. Just make sure you included your email so I can contact you if you win. Once you have entered my giveaway then please go over to Lori’s blog Night Owl Quilting & Dye Works to see the samples she has made with our pattern and enter her giveaway. She will have different fabrics to offer to go with the pattern. We will make the draws on Saturday, June 20th. I’m getting close to 1000 followers (wow really!) so if I hit that milestone that would put me in a really good mood and I might draw two names and giveaway both kits! Good luck!
Draw is now closed.
