Model A Ford Quilt

How is this for a cool idea!  Lori used photos of her brothers 1931 Model A Ford and had them printed onto fabric, she used a website called Zazzle.  It is going to be a gift for her brother which he knows about it and is very excited to receive ("is it done yet").  The one pictured above will be a wall hanging, its about 35"x 54".  She also had a second fabric printed with a side view of the car and had the image made small and repeated across the fabric, it is about 42"x 60".  He wants to use that one to lay over his seat in his Model A!   I used two layers of batting on that one to add extra cushion.

I quilted both with #456 So Fine thread (this is the best colour thread for blending into multi-coloured fabrics) and used swirl pantographs.  I used Bora Bora on the wall hanging and Curlz, which is a smaller scale swirl, on the car seat cover.

Lori was very impressed with the quality of the images printed onto the fabrics so was very happy with the job Zazzle did for her. This is a great way to personalize a quilting project.

  1. How fun is this! My husband is a car restorer and I just might surprise him for Father's Day! Hmmm...

  2. What a great idea. The colour reproduction is awesome. I know a brother who will want his Mustang printed if he sees this post. Then it will be "Is it done yet?" for me. Great work Linda and Kathy.
