Homework in Black and White

I have been quilting this week just haven't had much time to blog. Three quilts are waiting in the shack to be picked up but I don't want to post pictures until the owners have them in their hands.
It's been a busy few days with the guild retreat, sewing skirts with Lori for the school xmas concert, my son's birthday today and of coarse the online Quilt Whisperer class. Thought I would post some pics of my homework today. We have been learning to design quilt patterns as well as learn Carla's feathers. I am much better quilting these design than I am drawing so here is what I did tonight on black fabric. Just a note about quilting white thread on black fabric...it shows every little wibble and wobble. But surprisingly I like the high contrast and actually seeing the quilting on the fabric. I think I'm going to be bolder in my thread choices and patterns from now on. Let's see who's quilt is next...Eileen's. Hummm...which pattern should i pick for her???

  1. Well...... I do like the first design posted but there seems to be a lot of FEATHERS being practiced in the last one! Is that a sign of what I can expect???? I know that whatever you do the quilt will look great!

  2. WOW!! I am blown away. The first design is so delicate and second so intriguing. Every area sparks new interest and flows from one area to another. Don't imagine you'd want to do that one on a Mystery quilt! I am sure the teacher will be impressed.

  3. Eileen....expect the unexpected!! Actually I haven't decided on the final design yet but I'll have to find a way one to put at least one feather on there.

Anonymous....What not even an initial?? No fair. That dense freeflow feathers would not be a good choice for a bed quilt, it will sit flat like cardboard! It would also be ridiculously expensive to quilt. I think my brain would hurt by quilting that design on a bed quilt!

  5. Cardboard is not very cuddly! Sorry to have forgotten the initial. I remembered as soon as my post was entering cyberspace.

Cardboard is not very cuddly. Sorry about forgetting the initial. I remembered just as my post was entering cyberspace. Happy Birthday to your son as well. A
